Let Shop users sign up with one tap

Customers signed in to Shop can leave their email on your quiz with one tap, and Shop saves your quiz's discount code to their Shop account.

Written by Traian

Shop is Shopify's shopping app, and the account behind Shop Pay. Millions of shoppers already have a Shop account with their email and name saved.

With Let Shop users sign up with one tap turned on, customers who are signed in to Shop can leave their email on your quiz's Optin Page with one tap instead of typing it. If your quiz has a discount code, Shop also saves that code to the customer's Shop account, so it's applied at checkout even if they come back later or on another device.

What your customers see

Customers who are signed in to Shop see a card above the quiz's email field with their name and email and a Claim with shop button. If your quiz has no discount code, the button says Continue with shop. An "or" line separates it from the usual fields.

  • When they click the button, Shop fills in their email. They then press the Optin Page's usual button to see their results.

  • If they type the email of a Shop account into the field instead, Shop asks them to confirm it's them with a quick check, then fills in the email the same way.

  • If the quiz has a discount code, Shop shows Discount saved and keeps the code in their Shop account.

  • Customers without a Shop account see the Optin Page exactly as before. The Shop button only appears for people Shop recognizes.

The first time a customer uses it on your store, Shop asks them to agree to share their email and name with your store. That screen shows your store's name, not Lantern's.

Before you start

  • Your quiz needs an Optin Page with the email field shown. See Collect customer emails to add one.

  • Shop Pay must be turned on in your store. In Shopify, go to Settings > Payments, click Manage in the Shopify Payments section, tick Shop Pay and save.

Turn on Shop sign-up

  1. Open your quiz in the Lantern quiz editor.

  2. Click Optin Page in the left sidebar.

  3. In the settings on the right, open Show/Hide Page Elements.

  4. Tick Let Shop users sign up with one tap. It's under Check for bots before saving the email.

  5. Publish your quiz. Shop sign-up starts working once the published version has it.

The line under the checkbox names the discount code Shop saves for your customers. Click Change (or Add one if the quiz has no code yet) to go to the quiz's discount setting.

Choose the discount Shop saves

Shop saves your quiz's discount code, the one on the Results Page in the Discount section. It's the same code Lantern applies to the cart of everyone who finishes the quiz, so you only set it in one place. To learn more about the ways to use discount codes in a quiz, see Discount codes in Lantern quizzes.

  1. Click Results Page in the left sidebar and open the Discount section.

  2. Click the Discount code field. It lists your store's discount codes, most recently updated first, each with its status: Active, Scheduled or Expired.

  3. Type the start of a code to narrow the list, then click the code you want. You can also type any code yourself.

If the code you enter doesn't exist in your Shopify store, or has expired or hasn't started yet, the field says so, with a link to your Shopify discounts. To create a new code, go to Discounts in your Shopify admin.

Let Lantern see your discounts

To list your codes and check them, Lantern needs permission to view your store's discounts. The first time, the Discount code field shows an Allow button instead of the list.

The Discount code field with the Allow button that lets Lantern see the store's discounts

  1. Click Allow. A new tab opens where Shopify asks you to approve that Lantern can view your discounts.

  2. Approve it, close the tab and go back to the quiz editor. The list and the checks appear.

Lantern only reads your discount codes. It can't create, change or delete discounts.

With the permission, Lantern also tells Shop exactly which discount the code belongs to. Shop sign-up works without it today, but Shopify has said it will require this for saving codes to Shop accounts, so we recommend allowing it.

Good to know

  • Shop sign-up is off until you turn it on.

  • The email a customer gives through Shop is saved and sent to your email tools and integrations like any other email from the Optin Page.

  • A Shop account keeps each code once. If a customer already has your code saved from an earlier visit, Shop doesn't save it again, but the code is still applied to their cart.

  • Shop sign-up works on quizzes shown on your Shopify store. It doesn't show on headless storefronts.

  • The same discount picker is in content blocks, under Include a discount.

  • If you uninstall and reinstall Lantern, click Allow again to let Lantern see your discounts.
