How to Segment Customers in Brevo Using Lantern Quiz Answers

Written by Wendy

You can create customer segments in Brevo based on the answers shoppers give in your Lantern quiz. This helps you group customers by their preferences and send more relevant marketing messages.

Before you start, make sure you've connected Brevo to Lantern. If you haven't done this yet, follow our Brevo Integration guide.

Step 1: Create contact attributes in Brevo

Brevo doesn't automatically create contact attributes from your quiz's Property IDs. You'll need to create them manually before you can use quiz answers for segmentation.

1.1 In Brevo, go to Settings → CRM → Contacts → Contact attributes.

1.2 Under Normal Attributes, click Create attribute.

1.3 Choose Text as the attribute type and enter a name, such as Connection. Brevo automatically generates an uppercase Attribute ID (CONNECTION)

1.4 Click Create.

Step 2: Map quiz answers to Brevo

Next, connect the contact attribute to a question in your Lantern quiz.

For example, let's use a headphone quiz with the question “Cable or No Cable?” and the Property ID connection.

2.1 Open your quiz in Lantern and select the question.

2.2 Expand Integrations in the right-hand panel.

2.3 Enter CONNECTION in the Brevo ID field, matching the attribute you created in Brevo.

Repeat these steps for any other quiz questions you want to use for segmentation. For example, you can also create Brevo contact attributes such as FIT, USE_CASE, and PRIORITY, then enter the matching Attribute ID in each question's Brevo ID field in Lantern.

If your quiz uses Assigned Values, such as wired or wireless for the Either is fine answer, these values are sent to Brevo instead of the full answer labels. Assigned Values are optional but can make segmentation easier.

Step 3: Check the contact information in Brevo

After a shopper completes the quiz, you can check that their answers were saved to the mapped contact attributes.

3.1. In Brevo, go to CRM → Contacts.

3.2. Open the contact created or updated after the quiz was completed.

3.3. Under Information, check that the mapped quiz answers appear under attributes such as FIT, CONNECTION, USE_CASE, and PRIORITY.

If you don't see your custom attributes on the contact:

3.4. Click Manage Visible Attributes in the Information section.

3.5. Drag the attributes you want to display into the Information group.

Step 4: Create a customer segment

Once your quiz answers are stored as contact attributes, you can use them to create a segment.

For this example, we'll create a segment for shoppers whose CONNECTION value is wired.

4.1. In Brevo, go to CRM → Segments and click Create a segment.

4.2. Select Create segment from scratch.

4.3. Click Add filter, then select Contact → Attributes → CONNECTION.

4.4. Set the condition to is equal to and enter wired.

4.5. Click Save as segment.

4.6. Enter a name for the segment, such as Wired Headphone Preferences, choose the folder where you want to save it, and click Create.

Your segment will include contacts whose CONNECTION attribute matches wired. Brevo automatically updates segments as matching contacts are added or their information changes.
