Send product recommendations with Brevo emails

Written by Wendy

In this article, we'll cover how to add personalised product recommendations from a Lantern quiz to a Brevo email.

Before you start, make sure you've connected Brevo to Lantern. You should also have at least one completed quiz available in Brevo so you can preview the email using real quiz data.

Step 1: Create the automation

1.1. In Brevo, go to Automations → Workflows and click Create an automation.

1.2. Click Create from scratch.

1.3. Select Contact as the object that should enter and progress in the automation, then click Continue.

1.4. Add a Custom event trigger and select: Completed_Lantern_Quiz

This triggers the automation whenever someone completes a Lantern quiz.

1.5. Open Actions, then add Send an email to the workflow.

1.6. Click Add message, open the Create from scratch dropdown, then select Drag and drop editor.

Step 2: Add Dynamic Content for the recommended products

2.1. From the email editor, drag a Dynamic content block into your email.

2.2. Under Data Source, choose:

Event data → Custom events → Completed_Lantern_Quiz → products

The Data Source will appear as: params.products

This contains the products recommended to the shopper when they completed the quiz.

2.3. Under Layout, turn on Limit number of items and choose how many recommended products you want to display.

For example, set the number of items to 3 to show the first three recommendations.

2.4. Inside the Dynamic Content block, add the blocks you want to repeat for each recommended product.

In this example, use three columns and place:

  • an Image block in the first column

  • a Text block in the second column

  • a Button block in the third column

These blocks will repeat for each product in the params.products array.

Step 3: Add the product information

Now connect each block to the corresponding product information from the params.products array.

Product image

3.1. Select the Image block in the first column.

3.2. Under Image URL, remove the existing placeholder, click the variable icon, and select the image property.

Brevo will use the image for each recommended product as the Dynamic Content block repeats.

Product title

3.3. Select the Text block in the second column and enter: {{ item.title }}

This displays the title of each recommended product.

Buy Now button

3.4. Select the Button block in the third column and change the button text to something like Buy Now

3.5. Under Target, click the variable icon and select the url property.

The target will appear as: {{ item.url }}

This links each button to the corresponding product page.

Step 4: Preview the recommendations

The Dynamic Content block may not show the actual product information while you're editing it. Use an event preview to check how the email will look with real quiz results.

4.1. Click Preview & test.

4.2. Select Preview event.

4.3. Under Event type, choose custom events, then Completed_Lantern_Quiz

4.4. Select a completed quiz event that contains product recommendations.

The preview should now show the product image, product title and Buy Now button for each recommended product.

Once you're happy with the email, you can continue editing the design or use it in your automation.
