Understanding Reporting

Written by Wendy

Lantern includes built-in reporting tools for tracking your quiz performance. You can also use Advanced Analytics and third-party analytics platforms for more detailed tracking.

Built-In Reporting and Analytics

Go to Reporting → Analytics to view your main quiz performance metrics:

Track these essential metrics to understand your quiz’s performance:

  • Engagements: The number of quiz takers who answered at least one question. Simply opening a quiz does not count as an engagement.

  • Emails Collected: The number of email addresses collected during the selected time period, broken down by day.

  • Phone Numbers Collected: The number of phone numbers collected during the selected time period, broken down by day.

  • Orders: Purchases made directly from the quiz Results Page.

  • Sales: Revenue generated from orders made directly from the quiz Results Page.

  • Average Order Value (AOV): The average value of orders placed after completing the quiz.

  • Flow Conversion Rate: Shows how customers move through the quiz, from viewing it to making a purchase.

    • Views: For embedded quizzes, a view is recorded when someone scrolls over the quiz, even if they don't start it. For quizzes opened through a URL, a view is recorded when the link is opened.

    • Engagements: The customer answered at least one question.

    • Reached Results: The customer completed the quiz and reached the Results Page.

    • Sessions Converted: The percentage of sessions that resulted in a purchase directly from the Results Page.

  • Sessions by Device: The devices customers use to take your quiz, such as mobile or desktop.

  • Sessions by Location: The locations your quiz takers are visiting from.

  • Top Selling Products: Products generating the most sales through quiz recommendations.

  • Top Recommended Products: Products recommended most often by your quiz.

Submissions and Sessions

Go to Reporting → Submissions to review completed quiz submissions. You can see the answers each customer selected and the saved static URL for their Results Page.

For more information about individual quiz sessions, go to Reporting → Sessions. Here you can view information such as engagement status, location and customer email addresses when provided.

Sessions can have four statuses:

  • Open: The quiz was opened, but no questions were answered. Previewing a quiz without answering a question can also create an Open session.

  • Started: At least one question was answered, but the quiz was not completed.

  • Completed: The quiz was completed and the Results Page was reached.

  • Converted: A purchase was made immediately after completing the quiz.

Advanced Tracking with Lantern

Lantern's Advanced Analytics provides more detailed information about how customers interact with your quizzes.
You can also connect Google Analytics to track quiz events alongside the rest of your website analytics.

Custom Tracking Code for Other Third-Party Tools

If Lantern does not have a built-in integration with your analytics platform, you can add custom JavaScript tracking code from your quiz Settings.

There are separate fields for code that needs to be added to the:

  • Head of the page

  • Body of the page

Follow the instructions provided by your analytics platform to generate the correct JavaScript code and add it to the appropriate section.

If you need help setting up custom tracking or another third-party tool, we recommend Storetasker, a Lantern partner that connects Shopify merchants with freelancers who can help with store setup and customization.
