The product match score shows how well a product fits a customer’s answers in the quiz. For example, if your quiz has 6 questions and a product matches 3 of the selected answers, its score would be 3 out of 6, or 50%.

match score

By default, it has an x/y format where y is the number of questions in the quiz, and x is the number of times that product was a match for the chosen answer. You can change this format to a percentage % or hide it completely using the Match Score Format settings.

Sorting Priority

The sorting priority determines the order in which products are displayed on the results page when they have the same match score.

sorting options

Products can be sorted based on price, in alphabetical order or randomly.

Issue: Different Results for the Same Quiz Journey

If the sorting priority is set to "Random," products with the same match score appear in a randomised order. This can result in different results being displayed even when you take the same quiz journey multiple times.

  • Cause: Randomised sorting of products with the same match score.

  • Solution: Check the sorting priority setting and switch to price-based or alphabetical sorting

Match score thresholds

The better a product matches the selected answers, the higher its score.

The tolerance slider lets you control how closely products need to match before they are shown.

  • Set a higher percentage (for example, 70%) to show only very strong matches

  • Set a lower percentage (or 0%) to show more products, including weaker matches

To adjust this setting:

  1. Go to the Results Page in your quiz

  2. Open the Product Recommendations section

  3. Set your desired minimum match percentage

This helps you control how strict or flexible your product recommendations are.

Excluded Products

Excluded products are useful when a specific answer should prevent certain products or variants from appearing in the results.

For example, with nutritional supplements: a product might be a strong match overall, but if it contains an ingredient the customer is allergic to, it should not be shown.

If you exclude a product (or variant) from an answer:

  • And that answer is selected during the quiz

  • The product will not appear in the results, regardless of its match score

This ensures that important conditions (like allergies or incompatibilities) are always respected. For more information, check out this article.

Issue: Fewer Products Displayed Than Expected

Potential cause 1: High match score threshold

If your match score threshold is set too high, only very strong matches will be shown. This can limit the number of products displayed.

Solution:
Lower the match score threshold to include more products, including partial matches.

Potential cause 2: Too many product exclusions

If too many products are excluded across different answers, you may end up with very few (or no) products left to show.

Solution:
Review your product exclusions and check that you have not accidentally excluded too many products or key variants.

Tips for Optimizing Quiz Settings

  1. Set an Appropriate Match Score Threshold: Adjust the threshold to balance the quality and quantity of displayed products.

  2. Choose the Right Sorting Priority: Use price-based or alphabetical sorting for consistent results or random sorting for variety.

  3. Review exclusions: Only exclude when needed to avoid removing too many products.

  4. Test Your Quiz Settings: Preview the results page to ensure the settings align with your goals.

The "Match Score Threshold" slider is highlighted at 80%, indicating that only products with a match score of 80% or higher will be included in the recommendations. This demonstrates how to filter product results based on how well they match the quiz answers.
