Some questions read better as a scale than as a row of buttons. How many hours do you sleep? How sensitive is your skin? How often do you train? With Slider answers, each of your answers becomes one stop on a slider, and the customer slides to the one that fits.
A slider is a display option on single choice questions, not a different kind of question. The answers underneath are your normal answers, so connected products, logic jumps, Skip/Show conditions, answer visibility rules, analytics and integrations keep working exactly as they do with buttons. That's the difference from the Slider - Number range question, which only collects a number and can't connect products.
Add a slider question
Open your quiz in the Quiz Builder.
Click Add Page in the left-hand side menu.
Select Slider.
Choose Slider - Answers.
Enter your question, then add your answers in the order you want them on the slider, for example Less than 4 hours, 4 to 6 hours, 6 to 8 hours, More than 8 hours.
The new question opens with Display answers as already set to Slider in Question Properties.
Turn an existing question into a slider
Any Single Choice - Text Only question can be switched without losing anything:
Select the question in the Quiz Builder.
In Question Properties on the right, set Display answers as to Slider.
Set it back to Buttons or Dropdown at any time. Your answers, connected products, logic jumps and conditions stay as they were.
Note: A slider handle can only land on one answer, so the option is available on single choice questions only. Multiple choice questions keep Buttons and Dropdown. Emoji and image answers keep their buttons.
Slider settings
When Display answers as is set to Slider, one more setting appears in Question Properties:
Default answer: the answer the slider starts on. With a default, the slider starts on that answer, it counts as chosen, and the customer can continue right away. With None (start unselected), the handle rests in the middle in gray with nothing chosen, the text above the slider says Select an answer, and a required question waits until the customer moves the handle or taps an answer.
The Go to next question when answer is selected option doesn't apply to sliders: the customer always confirms with the Next button, otherwise the first move of the slider would submit the question. Required, Property ID and Sensitive data work as on any other question.
How it looks
The slider looks like the Slider - Number range question in the same theme, so you can use both in one quiz. The chosen answer is shown in bold above the track, each answer is written under its stop, and the chosen one is highlighted in your primary color. Customers can slide the handle, tap a stop, or tap an answer label.
It works best with about 3 to 7 answers. Each answer gets the same share of the width, and long answers wrap onto two lines under their stop, on phones too.
It also works with a keyboard and screen readers: the arrow keys move one stop at a time, and the current answer is read out.
Logic, products and personalization
Because the answers are ordinary answers, nothing changes here:
Connect products, variants and collections to each answer as usual.
Use Logic Jumps to send a customer to a different question depending on the answer they picked.
Use answer visibility rules to hide an answer for some customers. A hidden answer simply isn't a stop on the slider.
Give the question a Property ID to reuse the answer later with
{{ sleep }}, or in Skip/Show conditions.
Custom CSS
Every part of the slider has its own class, so you can style it from the quiz's custom CSS editor (see How to add custom CSS to your quiz).
Class | What it styles |
The whole slider block (width, alignment)
The chosen answer shown above the track
The area around the track; inside it
The row of answer labels under the track
One answer label (
For example, to make the labels larger and show the chosen one in dark green:
.answer-slider-label { font-size: 16px; }
.answer-slider-label-active { color: #0a5c36; }
Using the Lantern assistant
If you build quizzes through the Lantern assistant in Claude or another AI tool, ask for a single_choice_slider question and list the answers in order. To start the slider on a given answer, ask it to set that answer as the default.
Good to know
Slider answers are available on every plan.
Answers show as plain text on the slider. HTML in an answer label is removed there.
If the default answer is later deleted or hidden by a visibility rule, the slider simply starts unselected.
Analytics, submissions, CSV exports and integrations receive the chosen answer exactly as they do for button questions.
