Sensitive Data Controls let you choose which quiz answers are shared with your connected apps, which stay in Lantern, and which are deleted after the customer's results are generated.
This is useful when your quiz asks for personal information, such as health conditions, age or allergies. You can prevent specific answers from being shared while the rest of your quiz continues sending data to your email, SMS and automation apps as usual.
How it works
Every question in your quiz has a Sensitive data setting with three options:
Normal: This is the default. The answer is stored in Lantern and sent to your connected integrations as usual.
Don't share: The answer stays in Lantern. You can still see it in your Submissions, analytics and CSV exports, but it is not sent to your connected integrations.
Don't store: The answer is not sent to your connected integrations and is deleted as soon as the customer's results are generated. You won't see it in Lantern after the quiz is completed.
The Sensitive data setting is available on all question types, including single choice, multiple choice, one-line text, multi-line text, slider and date questions.
How to change the Sensitive data setting
Open your quiz in the Quiz Builder.
Select the question you want to update.
In the right-hand side menu, find Sensitive data under the question properties.
Choose Normal, Don't share or Don't store.
Publish your quiz for the change to take effect on the live version.
Which integrations are affected?
When a question is set to Don't share or Don't store, its answer is not sent to:
Shopify Flow and Shopify customer metafields
The Results Page event used by custom scripts on your store
For example, if your pet food quiz asks "Does your pet have any health conditions?", you can set that question to Don't share. The answer can still be used to help choose the right products, but it won't be sent to Klaviyo. All your other quiz answers can continue being sent as usual.
How Don't store works
Lantern needs the answer for a short time to work out the customer's product recommendations.
The answer is stored only for the current quiz session and deleted as soon as the customer's results are generated.
If the customer opens their Results Page again later, their recommendations are calculated again without that answer.
Important to know
The Sensitive data setting does not apply to details collected on your Opt-in page, such as name, email address, phone number and marketing consent. These can still be sent to connected integrations because apps such as Klaviyo need them to create a customer profile.
Changes to the Sensitive data setting are saved to your quiz draft and only take effect for shoppers after you publish the quiz.
Existing quizzes continue to work as before unless you change the Sensitive data setting and publish the quiz.
