Shopify Flow Integration

Written by Wendy

Shopify Flow is an automation tool built by Shopify that allows merchants to connect apps and store data into automated workflows. With Lantern’s Shopify Flow integration, you can trigger workflows based on quiz activity and use quiz data to power other automations across your store.

Available Triggers

Lantern provides two triggers inside Shopify Flow:

  1. Quiz Completed

Triggered when someone finishes a quiz. Useful if you only need the quiz data (such as the quiz name, quiz ID, answers, and product recommendations) and not a customer record.

  2. Quiz Completed — with customers

Triggered when someone finishes a quiz, and the option to create a Shopify Customer is also enabled. This requires capturing at least the email address using the Opt-in page and enabling Create customer in Shopify under Results Page → Advanced Settings → Orders & Tags.

Data Available in Each Trigger

When either trigger fires, Lantern sends a payload of quiz information into Shopify Flow. Examples include:

  • Quiz Info: quiz ID, quiz name, session ID, results URL.

  • Customer Info (with customers trigger only): email, name, browser, operating system, language, address (if available).

  • Responses: questions, answers (single or multi-choice), answer type, and index.

  • Products: recommended product IDs, variant IDs, ranking, score, price, and currency.

Note: Answers from questions set to Don't share or Don't store are not sent to Shopify Flow. Learn more about Sensitive Data Controls

Control Whether Quiz Completions Are Sent to Shopify Flow

You can choose whether quiz completions are sent to Shopify Flow for each quiz.

To change this setting:

  1. Open your quiz in the editor.

  2. Select Results Page.

  3. In the right-hand side menu, expand Order & Customer Tags.

  4. Under Shopify Flow, enable or disable Send quiz completions to Shopify Flow.

  5. Publish your quiz for the change to take effect.

This setting is enabled by default, which keeps the existing behavior for current quizzes.

Practical Applications

Here are some generic examples of what can be done with Lantern’s triggers in Shopify Flow:

  • Internal Notifications: Send an internal email to your team when a quiz is completed, including quiz responses and product recommendations.

  • Customer Tagging: Automatically add customer tags based on quiz answers or completion status.

  • Integration with Other Apps: Use quiz triggers to connect with other Shopify Flow–compatible apps for marketing, loyalty, or fulfillment workflows.

  • Segmentation: Route customers into different workflows based on their quiz responses, such as dietary preferences, skin type, or pet type.

Lantern’s Shopify Flow integration gives you two flexible triggers — Quiz Completed and Quiz Completed — with customers — along with detailed quiz data. This unlocks new automation opportunities, from internal notifications to customer segmentation, all powered by quiz responses.
