Connect Lantern's MCP to Claude or ChatGPT

Build, customize, edit and manage your quizzes by chatting with Claude, ChatGPT or other AI assistants using Lantern's MCP connector.

Written by Traian

Lantern's AI connector lets you build and manage your quizzes by talking to an AI assistant. Connect it once, then ask for what you want in plain language: "add a question about skin type", "recommend our bestsellers to anyone who picks dry", "how did the quiz do last month?"

It works with both Claude and ChatGPT, and it is included on every plan.

What you can do with it

Once connected, an assistant can do almost everything you can do in the Lantern app:

  • Build quizzes. Start from scratch or from a template, add questions of any type, reorder them, and publish when you are ready.

  • Recommend products. Connect products, variants or whole collections to any answer, rule products out, and set how strongly an answer counts.

  • Add branching. Jump to a different question based on an answer, or show and skip questions based on what someone answered earlier.

  • Change the design. Theme, colours, fonts and logo, plus detailed layout for questions, the results page and the email step, each with its own mobile settings.

  • Edit wording and languages. Reword any button or prompt, switch the quiz language, or lay it out right to left.

  • Read your results. Quiz performance, product performance, audience breakdown, individual submissions, and CSV exports.

  • Run A/B tests. Start and stop them, and read which variant is ahead.

  • Set up what happens after a quiz. Notification emails, Shopify customer and order tagging, webhooks, and Shopify Flow events.

Find your connector URL

Every store has its own connector URL. You will find it in Lantern on the home page, and under Integrations, with a button to copy it.

Connect to Claude

  1. In Lantern, open Integrations and copy the connector URL for your store.

  2. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.

  3. Paste the URL and add the connector.

  4. Approve the connection when your store's name appears.

Connect to ChatGPT

  1. In Lantern, open Integrations and copy the connector URL for your store.

  2. In ChatGPT, open Plugins in the left sidebar, then click the + button at the top right. If you do not see Plugins, turn on developer mode in Settings first.

  3. Give the plugin a name, such as Lantern.

  4. Paste your connector URL into the Connection field, and leave Authentication set to OAuth.

  5. Tick "I understand and want to continue", then create the plugin.

  6. Approve the connection when your store's name appears.

Connecting more than one store

Each store has its own connector URL, so you can connect as many stores as you like. Open Lantern for the store you want, copy that store's URL, and add it as another connector or plugin. A connection only ever has access to the one store it was approved for, so an assistant cannot reach your other stores.

Nothing goes live until you publish

Changes to your questions, answers, design and wording are saved to a draft. Your live quiz keeps running exactly as it is until you publish. Ask the assistant to publish when you are happy with the changes, or open the quiz in Lantern and publish there.

A few settings are not part of the draft and apply to the live quiz straight away: the quiz name, URL and SEO fields, the webhook addresses, and the tracking code, favicon and social sharing image. The assistant tells you when a change is already live.

Anything destructive, such as deleting a question or a quiz, asks you to confirm first.

Things to try asking

  • "Create a skincare quiz with five questions and an email step at the end."

  • "Add a question asking about hair type, with four answers."

  • "Recommend the Hydrating Serum to anyone who answers dry skin."

  • "Show three answers per row on desktop and one on mobile."

  • "Skip the last question for anyone who said they are a first time buyer."

  • "Which products convert best from this quiz?"

  • "Export last month's submissions as a CSV."

  • "Start an A/B test between my two skincare quizzes, split evenly."

  • "What would I pay at 3,000 quiz takers?"

What it cannot do

  • Change your plan or handle billing.

  • Connect other apps such as Klaviyo, which need your credentials and are set up inside Lantern.

  • Reach any store other than the one it was approved for.

Managing and disconnecting

Open Integrations in Lantern to see every assistant connected to the store, when it was connected and when it was last used. Disconnect removes its access immediately, on its very next request.
