Lantern's AI connector lets you build and manage your quizzes by talking to an AI assistant. Connect it once, then ask for what you want in plain language: "add a question about skin type", "recommend our bestsellers to anyone who picks dry", "how did the quiz do last month?"
It works with both Claude and ChatGPT, and it is included on every plan.
What it can do
Once connected, your AI assistant can build, customize and manage almost every part of your Lantern quizzes:
Build complete quizzes: Create a new quiz from scratch or start from a template. Add and arrange questions of any type, opt in pages, transition screens, sliders and custom connect.
Build your product recommendation logic: Connect products, variants or collections to answers, control how strongly different answers affect recommendations, exclude products when they should not appear, and configure how recommendations are displayed on the Results Page.
Create personalized quiz paths: Add Logic Jumps and Skip or Show Conditions to send customers through different questions and pages based on their previous answers.
Fully customize the design: Change colors, fonts, logos, typography, spacing, sizing, alignment and page layouts, including separate settings for desktop and mobile. You can also use custom CSS and raw HTML for more advanced designs and custom content.
Edit wording and languages: Change questions, answers, headings, button labels and other default quiz wording. You can also change the quiz language or use right to left layouts. For multiple languages, make sure to create a separate quiz for each language rather than translating the same quiz.
Create personalised Results Page summaries that reflect each customer’s responses.
Read your results: Review quiz performance, product performance, audience data and individual submissions, or export your quiz data as a CSV.
Run A/B tests: Create and manage A/B tests and review how each version is performing.
Set up what happens after a quiz: Configure notification emails, Shopify customer and order tags, webhooks and Shopify Flow events.
Find your connector URL
Each Lantern store has its own unique connector URL.
To find it:
Open Lantern in your Shopify admin.
Go to Integrations.
Under Connected AI assistants, copy the Connector URL.
If you manage more than one store, make sure you copy the URL from the specific store you want to connect.
Connect to Claude
1. In Claude, open Settings. Under Customize, select Connectors, then click Add and choose Add custom connector.
2. Enter a name for the connection, then paste the Lantern connector URL you copied earlier. If you manage multiple stores, include the store name so it is easy to identify.
3. Click Continue.
4. Review the detected authentication settings, then click Add.
5. Click Connect to start the authorization process. Then enter your store’s myshopify.com domain and click Continue to Shopify.
6. Review the requested access and click Approve connection. Once approved, you’ll be returned to Claude, where the Lantern connector will be ready to use.
Connect to ChatGPT
If you do not see Plugins in ChatGPT, first turn on Developer mode in your settings.
1. Open Plugins in ChatGPT and click the + button to create a new plugin.
2. Give the plugin a name, then select Server URL and paste the Lantern connector URL you copied earlier. Leave Authentication set to OAuth.
3. Tick I understand and want to continue, then click Create.
4. When prompted, click Sign in with Lantern.
5. Enter your store’s myshopify.com domain, click Continue to Shopify, then approve the connection in Lantern.
Verify your connected AI assistants
To confirm that your connection worked, open Lantern in Shopify and go to Integrations. Under Connected AI assistants, you’ll see each assistant that has access to the store, along with when it was connected and last used.
Customer data access
By default, connected AI assistants are allowed to access customer data.
This includes Submissions, Sessions, and email exports, which may contain email addresses, phone numbers, and quiz answers.
If you don’t want connected AI assistants to access this information, go to Integrations → Connected AI assistants and turn off Allow AI assistants to access customer data.
Quiz creation and aggregate analytics are not affected by this setting.
Recommended ways to get started
You can start with a simple request, but the more context you give your AI assistant, the more closely it can match your brand and build the quiz you have in mind.
Use your storefront as design inspiration
One of the best ways to get started is to upload screenshots of your website and ask the assistant to use them as design inspiration.
You can share screenshots of your homepage, product pages, collection pages or other branded content. This gives the assistant a much clearer understanding of your typography, colors, spacing, imagery and overall visual style.
For example:
“Use these screenshots of my storefront as design inspiration and create a quiz that feels consistent with the rest of my website. Match the typography, colors, spacing, buttons and overall style as closely as possible.”
You can continue refining the design afterwards by asking for individual changes.
Use custom CSS and raw HTML for more control
For more advanced customization, ask the assistant to use custom CSS or raw HTML content blocks.
This gives you much more control over the design and lets the assistant create custom layouts and content beyond the standard quiz settings.
You can use this for things like:
Cards, comparison sections and other custom content
Split image and text layouts
Custom spacing, sizing and alignment
More detailed Results Page layouts
For example:
“Create a custom welcome page with an image on the left and the quiz introduction on the right. Use raw HTML inside a content block for the layout and custom CSS so it matches the rest of my store.”
Build your data capture into the quiz
Ask the assistant to add an opt in page and choose exactly what information to collect, including:
Name
Email address
Phone number
Marketing consent using a checkbox
You can also choose which fields are required and whether customers can skip the page.
Use transition screens for offers and personalized content
Transition screens can show offers, educational content or personalized messages between questions or before the Results Page. You can also control who sees them based on previous answers or actions.
For example:
“Add a transition screen before the results and show my discount code to customers who submitted their email address.”
Personalize your Results Page
Alongside your main product recommendations, you can ask your AI assistant to show additional content or products based on a customer's answers. This can be based on one answer or a combination of answers, giving you much more control over what each customer sees on their Results Page.
You can use this to show add-on product recommendations, personalized advice, routines, product bundles, different categories of results, or other content that is relevant to the customer's answers.
For example:
“Add an add-on product recommendation below my main recommendations. If the customer says they are interested in scents, recommend a diffuser. If they are interested in diffusers, recommend our scent sample set.”
Or:
“Add a section to the Results Page with personalized skincare advice. Show one version for customers who select oily skin, another for dry skin and another for combination skin. Write appropriate advice for each skin type.”
When writing your prompt, simply explain what you want to show and which answer or combination of answers should determine what the customer sees. You can then refine the content, products and design with follow-up prompts.

You can also start with simpler generic prompts and refine the quiz as you go. Here are a few other prompt examples:
“Create a quiz from this template and change the questions to suit my products.”
“Create a product recommendation quiz for our best selling products.”
“Exclude products containing fragrance when someone says they have sensitive skin.”
“Add branching so customers see different questions depending on their skin type.”
“Show only three recommended products on the Results Page.”
“Make single choice questions automatically move to the next question after an answer is selected.”
“Which products convert best from this quiz?”
“Export last month’s quiz submissions as a CSV.”
Nothing goes live until you publish
Changes to your questions, answers, design and wording are saved to a draft. Your live quiz keeps running exactly as it is until you publish. Ask the assistant to publish when you are happy with the changes, or open the quiz in Lantern and publish there.
Some settings are not part of the draft and update immediately, including the quiz name, URL and SEO fields, webhook addresses, tracking code, favicon and social sharing image. The assistant will tell you when a change is applied immediately.
Anything destructive, such as deleting a question or quiz, requires confirmation first.
What it cannot do
Change your plan or handle billing.
Connect other apps such as Klaviyo, which need your credentials and are set up inside Lantern.
Reach any store other than the one it was approved for.
Create Shopify discount codes. The discount must already exist in Shopify before the assistant can use or display it in a quiz.
Connecting more than one store
Each store has its own connector URL, so you can connect as many stores as you like. Copy the URL from each store and add it as a separate connector or plugin.
Each connection only has access to the store it was approved for. If you have multiple stores connected, include the store name in your prompt so the assistant knows which connection to use.
Managing and disconnecting
Open Integrations in Lantern to see your connected assistants and when each one was connected or last used. Disconnecting an assistant removes its access from its next request onwards.
