Why use Lantern if I can build a quiz with Claude?

Written by Ana Bunaiasu

With Shopify’s Claude integration, it’s now possible to build quizzes, and this is a great option for creating simple, front-end experiences.

However, there are some important differences and limitations to be aware of.

What Claude can do well

Claude can be used to:

  • Build the quiz interface (questions, answers, layout)

  • Customise how the quiz looks and behaves on your store

For simple use cases, this may be enough.

Where things get more complex

A quiz isn’t just what the customer sees. It also needs to handle everything behind the scenes.

To match what a tool like Lantern does, a custom-built quiz would also need:

  • A way to store quiz responses securely

  • Analytics and reporting to track performance

  • Complex logic to generate product recommendations

  • Integrations with tools like email and SMS platforms

  • Ongoing maintenance and updates

This usually requires setting up and managing your own backend (server, database, APIs), which can quickly become complex.

When a Claude-built quiz might work

A Claude-built quiz can be a good option if:

  • You only need a very simple quiz

  • You don’t need advanced logic or product matching

  • You’re not capturing data for marketing or reporting

  • You’re comfortable managing technical setup and maintenance

When Lantern makes more sense

Lantern is designed specifically for product recommendation quizzes, so it handles all of the above for you out of the box.

This includes:

  • Storing and organising quiz data

  • Built-in analytics and performance tracking

  • Advanced product matching and logic

  • Direct integrations with marketing tools

  • Ongoing reliability without needing custom infrastructure

In short

Claude can help you build a nice front-end user experience. Lantern helps you run, track, and scale a quiz as part of your business.

If you're unsure which approach is right for you, feel free to reach out. We’re happy to help you think it through.
