Change an existing question's type

New public help guide for the Change type option in the Quiz Builder. It covers the steps, what is kept and what may be lost, and how Change type differs from Display answers as. Unconfirmed behaviour is listed as open questions.

Written by Ana Bunaiasu

With Change type, you can switch an existing choice question between single and multiple choice, or change how its answers are shown, without deleting and recreating the question. Your answers keep their product matches when you change the type.

Before you change a question's type

Change type is for choice questions. It lets you choose two things:

  • Shoppers can pick: One answer (single choice) or Several answers (multiple choice).

  • Answers show as: Text only, Text & emoji or Text & image.

When you change the type, your answers keep the products, variants and collections connected to them. To learn how products are connected to answers, see Product Matching.

Not every setting carries over. Some content or settings that belong to one type, such as answer images, may be lost when you switch to another type. Check the question after making the change.

Change the question's type

1.1. Open your quiz in the Quiz Builder and select the choice question you want to change.

1.2. Above the preview, click Change type beside the question's current type.

1.3. Under Shoppers can pick, choose One answer (single choice) or Several answers (multiple choice).

1.4. Under Answers show as, choose Text only, Text & emoji or Text & image.

1.5. Click Change type to apply your selection.

1.6. Check the question in the preview and add back any content that is missing, such as images.

Change type and Display answers as

Change type and Display answers as are separate settings:

  • Change type sets how many answers shoppers can pick and whether answers show text only, text and emoji, or text and image.

  • Display answers as, in Question Properties on the right, sets whether answers appear as buttons, a dropdown or a slider. It only changes how the answers are presented.

The dropdown option is available on text-only questions, and the slider option on single-choice text-only questions. Find out how to show a long list of answers in a dropdown and how to let customers slide between your answers.
