Ad blockers, browser privacy settings and short sessions can stop the Meta Pixel from sending some quiz events. With the Conversions API connected, Lantern's server also sends your quiz completions and leads straight to Meta, so your ads get credit for more of them.
What gets sent
When a shopper finishes a quiz, Lantern's server sends two events to your pixel:
LanternQuizComplete, with the quiz name and the recommended products.
Lead, following the Lead event setting you chose for the quiz.
Each event uses the same event ID as the one the pixel sends from the browser, so Meta counts it once even when both arrive.
To help Meta match the shopper, Lantern includes their email, phone and first name when they gave them, all hashed before they leave our server. It also includes the shopper's IP address, browser and Meta's own browser cookies. Quiz answers are never sent.
When events are sent
Only with consent. Events are sent only when the shopper allowed marketing cookies, the same rule as the pixel. If they opted out of the sale of their data, Meta's Limited Data Use setting is applied.
Only for your store default pixel. The Conversions API connects to the Store default Pixel ID. Quizzes that use the store default, or have the same Pixel ID set, send server events. A quiz with a different Pixel ID of its own doesn't.
Not for previews. Quizzes you preview from the Lantern admin don't send anything.
Before you start
Set up the Meta Pixel in Lantern first and enter your Store default Pixel ID. You can read how in Meta Pixel integration.
Step 1: Generate an access token in Meta
Open Meta Events Manager, go to Datasets and select the pixel you use as your store default. Check that its ID matches the Store default in Lantern.
Go to the Settings tab and scroll down to Conversions API.
Under Set up direct integration, choose Set up without Dataset Quality API. Lantern doesn't need the Dataset Quality API, and Meta doesn't let you turn it off once it's on.
Click Generate access token and copy it.
Step 2: Connect it in Lantern
In Lantern, go to Advanced Analytics and click Setup Meta Pixel.
Under Conversions API (server events), paste the token into Access token.
Click Connect. Lantern checks the token with Meta and shows the pixel's name when it works.
If Meta doesn't accept the token, you'll see Meta's reason under the field. The most common one is a token generated for a different pixel than your store default.
Step 3: Test it
In Events Manager, open the Test events tab and copy the test code, which looks like TEST12345.
Paste it into Test event code in Lantern and click Save.
Take your quiz on your store, allow cookies, and finish it. The two events show up in Test events marked as coming from the server.
Clear the test code in Lantern and click Save when you're done. Meta asks you to remove test codes once testing is finished.
Checking that it's working
The Conversions API section shows when events were last sent. If Meta rejects them, for example because the token was revoked, you'll see the error and when it happened. Paste a new token to fix it.
To stop sending server events, click Disconnect.
