How to use mutually exclusive answers in Lantern quizzes

Written by Wendy

Mutually exclusive answers let you choose an answer option that cannot be selected together with other answers in a multiple-choice question.

This is useful for options like Others, None of the above, or No preference, where the answer should be selected on its own.

How to set up mutually exclusive answers

  1. Open your quiz in the Quiz Builder.

  2. Select a Multiple Choice question.

  3. Go to the Question Properties section on the right-hand side.

  4. Find the Mutually exclusive answers setting.

  5. Select the answer option you want to make mutually exclusive.

In this example, Others is selected as the mutually exclusive answer.

How it works in the quiz

Customers can still select multiple regular answers.

However, when they select the mutually exclusive answer, all other selected answers are deselected.

If they select another answer after choosing the mutually exclusive answer, the mutually exclusive answer is deselected.

The other answers are not disabled. Lantern only updates the selected answers based on the mutually exclusive option.

Important note

The Mutually exclusive answers setting is only available for Multiple Choice questions.

It does not appear for Single Choice questions because single-choice questions already allow customers to choose only one answer.
