With Lantern you can translate your quiz into any language. We also support right-to-left (RTL) languages. Additionally, you can also change the wording of default elements in the quiz for any language, and you can check our more in-depth method in the last part of this article.

There are two ways a quiz can be translated:

  • Out of the box we offer a growing collection of preset translations.
Currently we provide: English & Dutch.

    OR

  • You can add any language you wish yourself by creating translations.

Creating translations

To add a language, open the app dashboard in the Shopify admin. Go to the Translations tab and click Add language.

After adding a language, you can translate the individual text labels on the detail page.

Setting the quiz language

To use a specific language, you have to set it as the quiz language in the editor. Go to the "Quizzes" tab and click on the Pencil Icon to open the Quiz Builder.

Within the Quiz Builder, open the Theme settings on the bottom left of the page, and select the new language you just created. You'll immediately see the translated labels in the editor preview.

Publish the quiz to make the change visible to your customers!

You can do this by clicking on the "Publish" step on the top of the editor, and then click on either "Publish" or "Republish" depending on whether this was your first time publishing your flow.

That's it! Your Quiz is now available in the language you just added.

If you would like your Quiz to be available in multiple languages, we recommend to create multiple quizzes: one for each language.

Changing the default text in the quiz

This applies to you if you want to keep the same language you currently use for your Quiz but change some of the wording for specific text labels. For example, you might want to change the button saying “View more picks” on the Results page to say “Load more products”.

Start by opening your Theme Settings. Underneath the language drop-down menu, you'll see a message saying ‘Click here to add translations for additional languages’. Click the blue link, and you will be redirected to the Language Settings section of the app’s admin.

Click the Add language button as you would for any other translation and select the language for which you want to add an alternative wording version. You can fully customize this version and change the wording of each available element from the Navigation, Question Steps, and Results page sections. In order to change the wording for the View More Picks, scroll down until you get to the “View more results button” and input the desired wording, in our case, “Load more products,” then save it.

To apply these changes, go back in your quiz editor, and inside your Theme settings, the language drop-down will now have this extra option you’ve added. Select it and view the changes that you’ve made.
