Connecting Lantern with Omnisend allows you to send quiz response data directly into your Omnisend account. This means you can store quiz answers as contact properties, keep a record of quiz completion events, and make this data available for use in future marketing activities such as segmentation, automation, and personalised campaigns.

This guide will walk you through connecting the two platforms and mapping quiz data.

1. Generate an API Key in Omnisend

1.1. Log in to your Omnisend account.

1.2. Go to Store Settings (or My Account → Store Settings, depending on your navigation menu).

1.3. Find the API section and select +Create API Key.

1.4. Give the key a clear name (e.g., Lantern).

1.5. Click Create, then copy the generated API key.

Important:

To make sure the integration works correctly, we strongly recommend creating an API key with full access.

2. Connect Omnisend in Lantern

2.1. In your Lantern dashboard, go to Integrations.

2.2. Find the Omnisend card and click Connect.

2.3. Paste your Omnisend API key into the field and save.

2.4. If the key is valid, Lantern will show the integration as connected. You can disconnect or update the API key at any time.

With Omnisend, once the API key is connected, all active quizzes in your account will send contact and quiz data to Omnisend automatically. There’s no need to set up individual quiz connections.

3. Mapping Question Responses to Properties

Lantern allows you to map each quiz question to a Property ID so the answer can be stored as a custom property in Omnisend. Example:

  • Question: Does your pet have any specific health conditions?

    • Default Property ID: health_condition

This is the identifier that Omnisend will store for the answer (e.g. health_condition).

4. How Data Flows to Omnisend

When a user completes your quiz:

1. A new contact is created (or updated) in Omnisend with:

  • Email address

  • Phone number ( if this is collected)

  • Name (if this is collected)

  • Any mapped custom properties from the quiz answers

  • Appropriate marketing consent

Important: To make sure your quiz takers are correctly subscribed to email and SMS marketing, these options are automatically enabled with each quiz. If you need to disable any of these options you can do this from inside your lantern quiz. You can find this on the right-hand side of your opt-in page, under the Integration Settings drop-down.

2. An event called Completed Lantern Quiz is sent to Omnisend, containing:

  • The user’s answers and associated question text

  • Recommended products (including name, image URL, price, product URL, and score)

5. Using Quiz Data in Omnisend Automations

Once quiz data is flowing into Omnisend, it can be used to:

  • Segment your audience based on quiz answers

  • Trigger automated workflows or campaigns

  • Personalise messages with quiz response data

We cover these topics in detail in separate guides.

By following these steps, your Lantern quiz responses will feed directly into Omnisend, letting you use the data for targeted marketing, personalization, and automated campaigns.
