Dynamic Content Blocks use scores to control what content is shown on the results page. Scores help you create personalised quiz results by assigning points to answers.
How scores work
Lantern lets you show results in two ways:
Default product recommendations that rely on matching products to answers in the quiz
Dynamic Content Blocks
You can also use both together.
With default product recommendations, products are shown based on a match score. This score is calculated from how many answers match a product.
For example, if a product matches 8 out of 10 answers, its match score is 80 percent or 8 out of 10. You can learn more about this in our Product Matching help article.
Dynamic Content Blocks work differently. Instead of scoring products, they score answers. Each Dynamic Content Block variant collects points from the answers that match it. The variant with the highest total score is shown on the results page.
If a Dynamic Content Block has only one variant, it always shows, no matter which answers are selected.
What Dynamic Content Block variants include
Each variant can include:
Images
Products
Text
Buttons
Links
Only one variant is shown to the customer based on the total score. You can learn more about setting these up in our Dynamic Content Blocks help article.
What scores are used for
Scores are mainly used for two things.
First, tracking preferences or progress: Each variant adds up points from matching answers. The variant with the highest score is the best match and is shown to the customer.
Second, customising results: Once a variant is chosen, you can fully customise its content and products to match the customer’s answers. You can learn more about this in our article on setting up and customising Dynamic Content Blocks.
Using scores in Dynamic Content Blocks
The default score for an answer is 100.
You can change this to any number between - 1000 and + 1000.
Negative scores reduce the chance of a variant being shown. They can also stop a variant from being shown completely. This is useful when all answers matter, and you want to calculate a total score, such as measuring a pet’s activity level.
Choosing which answers matter
With default product matching, all answers from all questions are used to work out the best-matching products.
With Dynamic Content Blocks, you choose which answers matter for each variant.
For example, if a variant is only for cat owners, you only select answers related to cats. Dog related answers are not included, so they never affect that variant. In this case, negative scores are not needed.
Score-based quiz results
Dynamic Content Blocks let you build quizzes where results depend on a total score, such as personality tests. Variants compete with each other based on the scores collected from answers.
You can group users into ranges like low, medium, or high and show different results for each group. This uses the score variable to decide which content block is shown. For more details, check out our Score-Based Quiz Results article.
Practical Tips for Using Scores Effectively
Define Clear Goals: Decide what you want the scores to achieve, whether it’s recommending products, categorising users, or something else.
Keep It Intuitive: Ensure the scoring system aligns with the quiz’s purpose and is easy for quiz takers to navigate.
Test Scenarios: Run tests with various answer combinations to check that the scores return the right results.
Using scores in Dynamic Content Blocks gives you clear control over which results are shown and helps you create simple, personalised quiz experiences for your customers.
