With the Google Sheets integration, every completed quiz adds a row to a spreadsheet in your Google Drive: the date, the customer's email, name and phone, one column per question, the recommended products and a link to their results. Your sales team can work the leads from the sheet, and you don't need Zapier or a manual export.
Connect Google Sheets
1. In Lantern, open Integrations and find Google Sheets under Automations.
2. Click Connect Google Sheets. A Google sign-in opens in a new tab.
3. Choose the Google account that should own the spreadsheets and allow access. Lantern only asks for permission to see and edit the spreadsheets it creates itself or that you pick for it, nothing else in your Drive.
4. You're sent back to Lantern, and the Google Sheets card shows the connected account.
5. Switch on the quizzes you want in a sheet (next section). Nothing is sent until you do.
Choosing which quizzes send
Open a quiz in the editor, go to its Notifications page and find the Google Sheets card, just under the custom webhooks. Tick Send completed quizzes to Google Sheets. Lantern creates a spreadsheet for that quiz the moment you tick it, with the column names already in place, and the card shows the spreadsheet's name with an Open link. It applies right away, with no need to publish.
Untick it whenever you want that quiz to stop; the Google Sheets card on the Integrations page marks it as switched off, and ticking it again resumes in the same spreadsheet.
Rows start from the moment a quiz is switched on. Earlier submissions are not added; use the export on the Submissions page for those.
Using a spreadsheet you already have
If you'd rather have the rows in one of your own spreadsheets, click Use an existing spreadsheet in the same card (or Use a different spreadsheet if the quiz already has one). Google's file chooser opens with the spreadsheets of the connected account; pick one and Lantern adds a Submissions tab to it, writes the column names in that tab, switches the quiz on and shows the spreadsheet's name in the card. Your other tabs are left alone, and Lantern only writes to the Submissions tab.
Google's file chooser needs two things from your browser. If it doesn't start, Lantern shows a warning in the card, and Google itself may show a misleading "The API developer key is invalid" message. Check these in order:
1. Third-party cookies must be allowed on the Shopify admin. This is the usual cause. In Chrome, a crossed-out eye icon at the right of the address bar means they're blocked on this page: click it, choose to allow third-party cookies for admin.shopify.com, then reload the page and try again. Other browsers have the same setting under Privacy, and extensions that block trackers can cause it too.
2. Sign in to Google in this browser with the account you connected to Lantern. If the chooser asks you to sign in, do that and try again.
Each quiz has one spreadsheet, but several quizzes can share the same spreadsheet: their rows all go to its Submissions tab, and the column names are kept in sync as you pick. If you'd rather keep quizzes apart, pick a different spreadsheet per quiz.
Where the spreadsheets are
A spreadsheet Lantern creates is named Lantern - [quiz name] and lands in the connected account's My Drive. The Google Sheets card on the Integrations page lists every quiz with its spreadsheet's name and a direct link, and the first row is frozen so the column names stay visible while you scroll.
The columns
Each row has, in this order:
Submitted at (in your store's timezone), Email, Name, Phone, then one column per question in quiz order, then Recommended products, Product links, Results link, Country, Language and Session ID.
A question's column is named after its answer key (the Property ID in the question settings) when you have set one, otherwise after the question title. Give your questions short answer keys like skin_type or budget: the column names stay the same even if you later reword the question, and text questions need an answer key to appear in the sheet at all.
Multiple choice answers are joined with commas in one cell. Product links are one URL per line in a single cell.
Editing the spreadsheet
You can add your own columns, formulas, filters and tabs. Lantern only ever appends rows to the Submissions tab and adds new columns at the far right when you add a question to the quiz. It never moves or deletes existing columns, so if you rename a question, its old column stays and a new one appears at the end; a removed question keeps its column, and new rows just leave it empty.
If you delete a spreadsheet, Lantern creates a new one for that quiz on the next submission.
Disconnecting
Click Disconnect on the Google Sheets card. Lantern stops adding rows and gives up its Google access. The spreadsheets stay in your Drive. If you connect the same Google account again later, Lantern continues in the same spreadsheets.
If you see Reconnect required on the card, the Google account's access was removed or expired (for example after a password reset). Click Reconnect and sign in again; rows that completed in the meantime are not added retroactively.
Good to know
One Google account connects to one Lantern store at a time. If you run several stores, connecting a second store with the same Google account disconnects the first one (it shows Reconnect required); use a separate Google account per store, or share the spreadsheets between accounts in Drive.
Answers you marked as sensitive in the question's "Don't share" or "Don't store" settings are never sent to the sheet, same as for every other integration.
Test submissions from the quiz preview are added too, so you'll see your own test rows while building.
If you prefer Zapier, the Zapier recipe still works.
